As the Sonographer you will be responsible for providing limited ultrasound services to the Women’s Care Clinic (WCC) clients, maintaining professional standards of care.



Client Care

  • Conducts only limited obstetrical ultrasounds (including Doppler assessment of FHR) for women under the direction of the Medical Director, in accordance with WCC policies and procedures
  • Communicated findings (such as fetal heart rate – FHR, etc.) of ultrasound in accordance with WCC policies and counseling practices and documents these findings accordingly
  • Communicates pertinent information and/or emergency information to the Medical Director or designee according to WCC policies and procedures
  • Is available to non-medical volunteers for consultation regarding medical concerns verbalized by clients; also will provide further assessment of the situation and possible referral for further routine or emergency medical care
  • Able to effectively communicate options to client without judgment or coercion
  • Protects clients’ health information for confidentiality, authorized access for treatment, and data security.



  • Notifies Clinic Director when supplies related to ultrasound and client medical care need to be re-ordered
  • Notifies Clinic Director or designee of ultrasound equipment problems, concerns or maintenance needed
  • Participates in quality assurance as it pertains to ultrasound scanning, and makes recommendations to the Clinic Director or designee as necessary
  • Oversees hands-on training and orientation for registered nurses who have completed an approved AWOHNN ultrasound course



  • Is familiar with infection control, safety and emergency/disaster procedures and HIPAA as detailed in the Policies and Procedures Manual
  • Commits to complete 2-week WCC introductory training before starting on-the-job training
  • Completes on-the-job training before performing medical services independently
  • Participates in monthly staff meetings, in-service training and other WCC functions where staff is needed throughout the year
  • Actively participates in the performance evaluation process assisting the Clinic Director
  • Able to use and understand the computer and/or iPad to document and review information in and out of the counseling room

  • Exhibit strong interpersonal and professional skills
  • Hold a current Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer license and be in good standing with the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers, keeping current on C.E. credits as required
  • CPR certified as a healthcare provider
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical considerations related to patient information


  • 2 years of clinical sonography experience with an obstetrical/gynecological emphasis preferred
  • Completion of a twelve (12) month program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or General Ultrasound.
  • RDMS registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or registry eligible and become registered within one (1) year from date of hire. Must maintain registry status and continuing education requirements annually.
  • CPR certified as a healthcare provider.

Performs various vascular ultrasound procedures under the supervision of the chief technical sonographer.

Delivers excellent customer service utilizing Relationship Based Care to advocate for safety, patient preferences, and optimal communication through partnering with patients/families and colleagues, including all internal and external customers.


Performs all vascular examinations completely with good diagnostic quality in a timely manner. 40 % 

Analyze test data accurately. Communicates findings to reading vascular physician in verbal and written form. 30 %

Operates, troubleshoots, and appropriately requests repair of testing equipment in a safe, appropriate, and knowledgeable manner. 10 %

Maintains skills for all current procedures performed. Learns new skills and procedures as changes occur. 10 %

Maintains CPR certification. 10 %


Required - High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred – Bachelors


BLS (CPR) - AHA Health Care Provider BLS

RVS - Registered Vascular Specialist

RVT - Reg Vascular Technologist

Additional information on required licensure/certification/registry/listings:

RVT or RVS from ARDMS or CCI


Preferred - 1 year Healthcare - Allied Health
